Nivola, the Immortal: Where the Roar of the Engine Meets Eternity.

There is a silence that smells of history and legend. It is August 11th, and in Mantua, before the monument that celebrates his greatness, the institutions have honored the man behind the myth: Tazio Nuvolari. Today, exactly 72 years after his passing, the roar of his courage resonates louder than ever. On this very significant day, the Digital Bank of the Tazio Nuvolari Museum is proud to launch a new monthly column: "Nivola's Augusts." A journey through time to rediscover, month by month, the feats that carved his name into history, focusing on the races held in the heart of summer. And we could not have started with anything less than a feat that defines the impossible. A feat that, although it took place at the end of July, perfectly embodies the spirit of that summer 90 years ago and launches us toward the August celebrations.

The Impossible Victory: Nürburgring, 1935, 90 years after the feat..
Imagine the Green Hell of the Nürburgring on July 28, 1935. The air is saturated with German power: the Silver Arrows of Mercedes and the mighty Auto-Unions are the absolute queens, ready to triumph on their home turf. And then there is he, Tazio, small and tenacious, in his Alfa Romeo P3 of Scuderia Ferrari. A David against Goliath. The race seems decided. During a pit stop for refueling, disaster strikes: the handle of the fuel pump breaks. Precious seconds, minutes, are lost amidst the frustration and furious anger of the champion. The German giants fly away. But it is here that the man becomes a legend. Tazio sets off again with fire in his eyes. He doesn't drive; he dances an infernal dance through the curves, pushing his Alfa beyond all human and mechanical limits. The engine screams, the heart pounds. He regains position after position in a comeback that is nothing short of miraculous. On the last lap, the race leader, the German von Brauchitsch, is there, a few kilometers from the finish line. Victory seems his. But fate, or perhaps Nivola's tenacity, has decided otherwise. The tires of the Mercedes are in shreds, destroyed by an unsustainable pace. Tazio sees it, understands it's his moment and, with ice-cold composure, overtakes him. The silence of the 200,000 German spectators is deafening. Tazio Nuvolari wins against all odds. But the masterpiece is not over. Confident in his strength, he had brought a brand-new Italian Tricolore flag from Italy, because he knew the one provided by the organizers was worn out. He has it hoisted on the highest flagpole, a gesture of pride and defiance. And when the loudspeakers, unable to find the Royal March, broadcast the notes of "'O sole mio," the feat becomes a work of art. An Italian had just given the greatest lesson in courage and determination in the lion's den.

To celebrate the "Flying Mantuan," here is the complete list of the exploits that saw him as the protagonist in the month of August, in both motorcycle and car racing, from 1923 to 1950. A list that testifies to a relentless career, always lived with the accelerator pressed to the soul.
